Background 

  • Jointly established by the Environmental Protection Department and The University of Hong Kong (HKU), Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre aims at providing public experiential environmental education to build a community living sustainably and harmoniously with nature. 


Event Highlights 

Black Kite Public Census 2019
  • Black Kite Public Census 2019 (香港麻鷹公眾普查), a half-day program that provides opportunities for the general public to become amateur Black Kite surveyors through pre-event briefing, on-site training and practical; 
Ecology in the Making: A History of Amateur Naturalists in Hong Kong
  • Exhibition - Ecology in the Making: A History of Amateur Naturalists in Hong Kong (「牠它他的生態半部曲」), a 3-month exhibition explores for the first time, the stories of 12 individuals who contributed to the making of modern ‘ecology’ in Hong Kong from 1816 to 1984.


Challenge

  • Promote and recruit participants for "Black Kite Public Census 2019” and “Special Exhibition - Ecology in the Making: A History of Amateur Naturalists in Hong Kong”.
  • Explore and recognize the significant position of Hong Kong as the highest density of Black Kite in the world
  • Reinforce the idea of “Citizens Scientists” and enhance the brand awareness of the Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre


Strategy

  • Press Releases were published to introduce Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre, as well as event announcement, recruitment and program details.
  • Media Events & Interviews were arranged for target media to understand more about the organizers, events and the participants which effectively generated high-quality media coverage. 
  • Social Media Planning for both events were carried out to promote and recruit participants.


Results

  • Over 100 citizens participated in the Black Kite Public Census 2019 (香港麻鷹公眾普查)
  • Over 15 pieces of media coverage were generated from top-tier media channels, such as Hong Kong Economic Times, RTHK, Ming Pao, Oriental Daily and am730 etc.
  • Media from different sectors including local news, feature, parenting, and education are well-outreached.
